Misalignment (with Other)—in tandem with Misalignment (with Self) —explores a redefinition of "self-portrait" by photographing another's body experiencing of my own. These photos depict my friend and collaborator (Maria Mosier) inhabiting the clay body parts that I hand molded upon my body. In this way, I am photographing myself, but through the subjectivity of another woman. The works explore what it means to engage intimately but platonically with another woman's body and in turn, the radical self-conceptions it  can provide to watch another woman tenderly reinterpret one's parts. It is a complete reimagining of the rigid functions and appearances of female body parts; her shoulders can fit in my clay knee, my clay shoulder can fit on her breast. Unlike the violent anagrammatic bodies of Hans Bellmer's dolls, for example, these bodily rearrangements convey the agency of women and their relationships to define the role of their body in both reality and images. They are images of vulnerability, agency, and subjectivity. This project is in favor of productive visual misalignments.
